You'd have been hard pressed to ask for a worse day for a Roadeo, but this event was to preserve, whether Rain or Shine....and Rain it did. This did not make for a total washout as MTA held it's "Roadeo" on June 16th, 2001. The competitors came out in full force, and the rain only made for more of a challenge to their operational skills. When all was said and done, John Durant of Northwest Division regained the title from Mike Hamlin of Kirk Division, who had upset Durant's long standing title the year before. Bringing up third place was Reginald Johnson from Northwest Division, who had earned the "bronze" last year as well.
The biggest draw for the die-hard transit fans were the buses - in particular, the historic buses that came from as far away as Richmond to make the festivities. Very well represented in the showing was Metrobus (WMATA) who brought two buses of their own (although one is an ex-Baltimore coach), which were joined by three additional Metrobuses in restoration by regional enthusiasts.
