Minor Variations to Standard Schemes

Coach: Year of Application: Details of Variation
1608 ca. 1974 One of very few coaches repainted back into the BTC two-tone green scheme after the adoption of the State Blue & Green Color Scheme. (This coach was likely THE last)  Numbered with Helvetica numbers instead of Railroad Roman numerals.
1722 ca. 1971 1700 series coach mistakenly painted in the Blue and Green scheme (used only for TDH-5105s).  Coach was retired very shortly after being painted.
1928 ca. 1978 Only Old-Look coach to receive large numbers applied to center of front, and within stripe behind driver.
2035, 2231 ca. 1971 These two coaches received Railroad Roman Numerals after being repainted into the MTA Blue and Green Scheme.
2637 GM ca. 1982 Coach received a variation of the White with Blue Stripe Scheme in which the lip area around the windshield was painted blue instead of white.
2836 ca. 1981 Coach remained in Blue and Green scheme until retirement in 1989, but recieved large size numbers above the front door, driver's window, and below the windshield, while keeping the small corner numbers at the same time.
2922 ca. 1991 Only New-Look bus to carry the new MTA logo, also equipped with Chrome wheel covers.
3007 ca. 1982 Similar to 2637, coach received White with Blue Stripe scheme, while the windshield "Cage" was painted blue.
3329, 3357 ca. 1988 After repainting into White with Blue Stripe, coach received Small size numbers instead of large.
3519 ca. 1987 Only Grumman or Flxible to wear large size numbers (aside from demonstrator #8381), worn until retirement in 1996.
3536, 3546 ca. 1986 Both coaches repainted into New MTA logo scheme while carring a wide white stripe between the blue belt and the window line. (Scheme would become standard over 10 years later!)

Special Paint Schemes and Applications

1607? ca. 1960?   Advertisement for San Giorgio Spaghetti, consisting of Red and Black Paint (and perhaps green)
1928 ca. 1974 ca. 1978 MTA's First Christmas Bus, giving free rides during holiday season.  Mostly white with 1970's cartoonish Santa Claus occupying side, with whip leading to front containing a reindeer cartoon with a red light-bulb nose that lit up.  Later received variation of Light Blue Scheme.
2217-2219 ca. 1971 ca. 1975 Downtowner - State Flag colors - Yellow Wraparound with black crosshatch striping in Belt Area and Red Dampers.  Later reverted to standard scheme after inauguration of "Spirit of '76" service.
2482-2484, 2516-2519 ca. 1976 ca. 1982 Downtowner (originally "Spirit of '76" with stars applied (later removed after summer season)).  Dark Blue wraparound front, with red beltrail that swung down from roof.  (Roof and window area originally dark blue - later changed to white).  Narrow white band between belt and window area upon original painting.  Silver wheels (Note: 2482-2484 only were painted in the modified scheme, and were done in 1977).
2657     MTA Christmas Bus - White Front - Red Lettering.  Free rides to patrons.  Repainted into standard MTA Dark Blue wraparound scheme after use.
2700 ca. 1975 ca. 1978 MTA Baltimore Tour Bus, operating on special route to serve tourist attractions during the bicentennial era. 
2824 1975 1975 MTA Birthday Bus, painted pink and and adorned with five light blue birthday candles on the roof - offering free rides to passengers fortunate enough to board.
2939 ca. 1988 ca. 1990 "Reach the Beach" Bus, specially attired for use in Ocean City during summer months, the coach was generally non-revenue in Baltimore during the time it wore this scheme.
2939 ca. 1990 ca. 1992 Bus specially attired in Dark Blue scheme with words such as "Crying", etc. applied in efforts to raise awareness and prevention of teen pregnancy.  Coach operated in Revenue service after receiving this scheme.
2942     Christmas bus giving free rides to patrons boarding.  Mostly white with red numbers and numerous holiday themed decals applied to exterior.
2944   Present MTA Holiday Bus attired in standard wraparound front scheme using red instead of blue (number only in rear).   Free rides to passengers.

Towson Shuttle.  White with dual pinstripes of blue and orange, and Towson Shuttle logo applied.  Operated on city routes in addition to Route 76.  Repainted into standard scheme after service dropped.

8926, 8970 Oct., 1997 Honda (Accord) Sides and Back White Background, New-Look type windows superimposed on bus, with "passengers" ogling car which is also superimposed as if it is riding alongside of the bus.
8927 Aug., 1994 Ikea Sides and Back Mustard Background with woman's face pondering furnishing ideas superimposed on wrap.
8958 1995 Lustrasilk, Beauty Mart Sides and Back Pink Background, Product box "Pink Protection" and slogan superimposed on backdrop with store name. (Note: most male operators had a dislike for this coach, as it apparently threatened their "manhood" to be seen driving it.)
8966 Aug., 1994 Ikea Sides and Back Similar to 8927, with Teal Background and different artwork applied.
8977 Aug., 1994 Ikea Sides and Back Similar to others, with Cobalt Blue backdrop, and different artwork applied.
8977 1995 Job Corps Left Side Lime Green Background, "GET A JOB" in large letters and slogan applied.
