INTERLINING ARRANGEMENTS:

  • Between 1947 and 1949, interliners were operated on route #26 from Irvington Car House in order to provide work for conductors displaced by the conversion of all #8 line service to one man PCC operation .  In nearly every instance, the cars used in this interlining arrangement should have been two-man semi-convertibles.  However, there always stands the remote possibilty that an Irvington PCC or two may have been interlined to the #26 line due to equipment shortages of Semis - this before the #26 line featured PCC operation.
  • Between 1952 and 1954, Specific interlining was carried out on route #26 from cars of the #13 and #19 line.  Thus, any of Montebello or Belvedere's (or possibly even Edmondson's) cars could have been spotted on route #26 during this period.
  • As well, around 1945, it was still common to see cars from other divisions interlined into the #20 line to Point Breeze, the #6 to Fairfield or Curtis Bay, or even the #17 to Westport.  Route #29 commonly featured daily weekday interlined trips to all of these destinations, thus making the appearance of "foreign" PCCs quite possible on any of them.
