Inspired by the fun index in Stan Fischler's book about the New York Subway, I decided to compose my own little fun impression about the Baltimore system, based on numerous factors.  Most of these ratings are based on observation, and are simply my own personal opinion.  You may feel free to have your own.  In the meantime, enjoy!

RATINGS SYSTEM:
Top Notch, First Class.
Excellent, but not perfect.
Average, not great, but not too bad.
Marginal, needs improvement.
Unsatisfactory, nowhere to go but up!

ROUTE:
Speed/
Equipment:
(higher ratings for a Faster Trip or better class equipment)
Reliability of Service:
(higher ratings for service that closely matches schedule times)
Scenery/History:
(higher ratings for interesting history or sights along route)
Comments or Observations:
1 - Fulton Ave - Fort Ave.
Diverse ridership on this descendent of 2 Baltimore Trackless lines
2 - Frederick Avenue
One of 2 Artic Lines, this line has evolved a bit since it was the #8 Streetcar. Nice through Yale Heights.
3 - Loch Raven Blvd.
Heavy Ridership, and Rough, Delay ridden schedules make for an unreliable service.
4 - North Point Road
A well cared for route of Eastern Division, usually new equipment.
5 - Druid Hill Ave. - Sinclair Lane
Heavy Ridership, but decent scheduling makes it bearable.  Interesting riding through Reservior Hill.
7 - Pennsylvania Ave.
A far cry from its former service levels, route 7 does manage to be reliable.
8 - York Road
Absobtion of Route 9 has been a dreaded curse for the patrons of this scenic throwback to the #8 Streetcar.
10 - Eastern Ave.
The trunk is nothing special save for the area near the "underpass" but Sparrows Point is a relic seeker's dream come true!
11 - Charles St. - Washington Blvd.
Rich History and Diverse Clientele, along with lovely ponds on Springlake Way make this otherwise ordinary line memorable.
13 - North Avenue
Lots of Rich sites enroute, but a heavy and slow running service.
14 - Ritchie Highway
Only the newest for Annapolis, and leapfrogging the old B&A line makes the trip scenic at times.
15 - Belair Road - Edmondson Ave.
Loads of Different Destinations and a full range of scenery make the #15 line an interesting one at least.
16 - Caton Ave.
More reliable since it's inception from route #22, but not too remarkable for seeing sights.
17 - Nursery Road
A Fast ride with lots of "vias," this #17 is nothing like it's Lake Shore Ancestor.
19 - Harford Road
An often slow ride, route 19 does offer some tidbits of interest, if you know where to look.
20 - Baltimore St.
Regardless of it's long ride, route 20 does hold one of the best rides in town, and it was Baltimore's first major bi-radial trunk bus line.
21 - Preston St.
Usually, older equipment works the #21, an interesting and often forgotten relic in itself.
22 - Crosstown
Now back to it's BTC form, route #22 is still a heavy hauler.
23 - Eastern Ave. - Edmondson Ave.
Almost completely run by 9400's or better, the #23 has improved since the schedule was rebuilt.  Outer Edmondson stretch is among the most interesting in system.
24 - Tidewater
Monotonous Shuttle at least is cared for with a newer bus.
27 - Falls Road
3 Stars
The descendent of the #25 line, this route carries good history and scenery along with a pleasant ride.
28 - Liberty Heights Ave. - Russell St.
Although a shadow of it's former self, this one day route still offers a blast to the past - FOR NOW!
29 - Cherry Hill Road
2 Stars
3 Stars
Heaviest hauling shuttle line in the system, route #29 does its job well, desite a seeming lack of respect from the Planners.
30 - Hollins Ferry Rd.
Precise timing make this line an intersting run, while it still exists.
31 - Wilkens Ave.
4 Stars
Complete lack of running time, tie ups at Camden Yards and Charles Street, are little to compensate for the bits of scenery along it.
33 - Cold Spring La.
The "Little Line that could" has earned decent respect at MTA - finally!
35 - Philadelphia Road
All NABI line is under constant scrutiny and refinement by MTA.  Big change from its Rosedale Passenger Lines days.
36 - Alameda
Classic example of buiding a heavy trunk line from scratch.  Good view of Kirk Division.
44 - Belvedere Ave.
Good equipment and scenic Western ends make for an interesting ride. Slower to cross than #33 though.
50 - Mannasota Ave.
Shorty Flx line is half of what it once was, but this persistent relic of the "U" Bus continues to meet and beat Farebox mandates.
51 - Pulaski St.
West Side's Original Crosstown is not the most reliable, but offers a ride through widely  ranging neighborhoods.
55 - Taylor Ave. - Rossville Blvd.
McMahon descendent continues to grow and perform well.
61 - Roland Ave.
Textbook case of how to destroy a bus line.  Stepchild line continues to see service levels dwindle, often a result of unreliability.
64 - Hanover St.
Typical equipment and performance, but some nice riding though Narrow Light Street and across the Hanover St. Bridge.
67 - Pimlico Shuttle
Unremarkable line does offer throwback to the days when Horse Racing was King.
77 - Rolling Road
Growing line continues to see developments accompany it.  Was once nearly eliminated.
86 - Social Security
4 Stars
Sole Survivor of the 86 line "system" still carries a few riding faithful.
91 - Garrison Blvd.
The other Artic Line is the more dreaded of the two.  Heavy Hauling along most of route.
97 - Mondawmin Shuttlebug
3 Stars
4 Stars
2 Stars
Neat Route twists and turns a double loop using existing routes and new streets.
98 - Hamden Shuttlebug
Interesting journey for a newer route.
M1 - Liberty Heights Ave.
Neat cutbacks such as "GWYNN OAK" and "BUCKINGHAM" make this better than most feeders.
M2 - Reisterstown Road
Heavy line offers little of interest, scenery wise, unless you like Car Lots.
M3 - Park Heights Ave.
A Diverse line with some interesting sites, resonably reliable.
M6 - Gwynn Oak Ave.
Historically interesting and scenic for a Feeder, this route is perhaps the best way to get to Security Square.
M8 - Liberty Road
4 Stars
Little of interest along this straight, boring descendent of the original Trackless line.
M9 - Reisterstown Road
One of very few routes in which you can see horses roaming from aboard.  Typically served by NABI's alone.
M10 - Greenspring Ave.
4 Stars
Quirky, loopy line offers some nice views of former B&N Rights of Way, and hints of the Greenspring Branch too!
M12 - Stevenson Road
Odd little line gives an interesting glimpse at how "the other half" lives.
M17 -
Owings Mills Circulator

A tiresome peak hour shuttle with good ridership, but little but modern surroundings.
102 - Rosewood Express

The last remnant of the old "JET" program of the 1960's, this funky line continues to hold on.
103 - Hopkins - Towson Express

Broken off of the former 13X, this is the only route to jaunt Ellerslie Avenue.
104 - Hopkins - Cromwell Express

The other 13X remnant is a tad more boring and less remarkable.
105 - Cub Hill - West Carney Express

4 Stars
Last vestige of the old McMahon operations, the former 19A hangs on.
120 - White Marsh
Unremarkable Commuter Run is well patronized, but offers little besides it's Tunnel Run that is memorable, aside from fewer stoplights in the 'burbs.
150 - Ellicott City
Perhaps the most interesting Commuter Bus, due to it's stretch on Outer Edmondson when outbound, and it's plunge into the Patapsco River Valley.
160 - Oliver Beach
Popular East End Commuter bus does offer a nice ride through Chase and Oliver Beach.
210 - Annapolis
"Naptown" and the Bay Bridge make for interesting aspects of a Commuter run.
METRO
Most capable performer in MTA system is also the best maintained.  Nice scenic possibilties ruined by sound barriers on outer route.
LIGHT RAIL
Despite passing sidings, trains do commendable job of being prompt.  Entire route just DRIPS with historic scenery.
