This will be another attempt to bring the flavor of Baltimore Transit Past and Present onto your Desktop.  Featured will be a variety of Baltimore Transit related sounds, from engine recordings to smaller tidbit sounds, and even a few humorous items as well.  Smaller files will be permanent, but the larger files may rotate in order to keep the section fresh while conserving server space.  All files are in .WAV format, so you'll need an application capable of playing them, though most of you should already have such an application in your PC.  ENJOY!!!

TEMPORARY/ ROTATING SOUNDS
8738.wav Take a journey aboard Cummins L-10 Engine equipped Flxible Metro Coach #8738 as it hustles from Edmondson Avenue and Harlem Lane to Edmondson and Northbend Road, slowed only by the sharp curve at Academy Road enroute.  A very capable coach with loads of power, be sure to listen for the Cummins "whistle" as the coach coasts and decelerates. 9211.wav Another product of Flxible, Coach #9210 is equipped with a Detroit 6-71 Engine, the same kind as GM Old Looks.  The main difference between them is the new ones are Turbocharged, making for a higher overall pitch.  This journey runs from Hollins Ferry and Hammonds Ferry Roads up to Hammonds Ferry and Lansdowne Boulevard. (2.5 MB in Size)
Flx3175.wav Here's a sample of THE sound that made me a lifelong transit fan - In this excerpt, 1975 Flxible Coach #3175 guns off from University Parkway and Tudor Arms and makes short work of the upgrade to Overhill Road on the #61 line in April of 1989.  While I didn't get the great hyperspin into Overdrive, I did get the distinctive Flxible grunt into 2nd gear, about 19 seconds into the sample.  Recorded from an old Beta tape. PERMANENT (MORE OR LESS) SOUNDS
LRT PULL OFF OK, So I missed getting the first of the two bells, but the sound of the traction motors is clearly there as this car pulls out of a stop signal on Southbound Howard Street at Lombard.  Recorded from outside the car. (172 k)
LRT ARRIVE Same car as above, this time making its arrival into the University Center-Baltimore Street stop.  Again, recorded from outside the car. (104 k)
31 PENN What has to be the most long winded door "intro" on Baltimore's Clever Devices system.  Most of the time, the doors have since closed again, and the bus is heading up the street by the time this welcome has ended. (121 k)
LESBIAN ST. No, it's not what she's saying, but it is what it sounds like she's saying.  Riders of the 10, 20, and 23 lines get this comical treat as their 2000 model NABI approaches GUSRYAN Street. (19 k)
9427 Bass in Your Face!  There's nothing quite like a Cummins equipped 9400 Series bus with a hole in the muffler.  A sound certain to annoy dogs and sensitive car alarms alike! (155 k)
Farebox A very short and simple sound, the pull-in sound made by the farebox when it is keyed to end the shift. (18 k)
Wingding Ask any Rider or Operator of the South end of the #11 who the most irritating rider of the line is, and they're sure to say "Billy Wingding," a moody borderline neurotic, who speaks with an insincere sweetness when he's in a good mood, and who rants about being "damn hot" and "in a hurry" when he's not.  Here's a sample of his good side! (42 k)
